How should your agency integrate behavioral health services within your primary care operations? The SAMHSA-HRSA Center for Integrated Health Solutions (CIHS) offers a 4-step guide with some suggestions. Sustaining Integrated Behavioral Health Services: A Step-by-Step Guide suggests the following four steps for creating integrated care models:

  • Step 1 – Operational and Administrative Readiness
  • Step 2 – Workforce Development
  • Step 3 – Clinical Practice Tools
  • Step 4 – Sustainability and Continuous Improvement

The above guide is Part II of the CIHS online resource called the Integration Edge, offering "tips and examples of how organizations like yours implement integrated primary and behavioral health care." Part I is called Sustaining Integrated Behavioral Health Services: Strategies and Tools for Recruitment, Retention, and Workforce Development, which presents "recruitment resources and interview questions to help develop an integrated care staff."
