The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) has produced the Distinction in Behavioral Health to distinguish practices that provide integrated behavioral healthcare and services as part of a patient-centered medical home (PCMH). Behavioral health conditions, such as mental illnesses and substance use disorders are often under diagnosed or diagnosed late, causing delays in treatment. The conditions can often first be identified in a primary care setting. Practices eligible to earn this distinction include those in the process of earning NCQA PCMH recognition and those that have earned NCQA PCMH Recognition using standards released in 2014 or later.
