Recent updates in sections of the Guidelines for the Prevention and Treatment of Opportunistic Infections in HIV-Infected Adults and Adolescents have been published. These Federally approved HIV/AIDS medical practice guidelines are available through NIH and its AIDSinfo website.
  • The August 3 update covers Hepatitis B Virus, adding TAF/FTC as a treatment option for HBV/HIV coinfection. Furthermore, adefovir or telbivudine are not longer presented as options for HBV/HIV coinfected patients.
  • The July 25 updates cover Pneumocystis Pneumonia andToxoplasma gondii Encephalitis, on both counts to update the standard of care in 2017, including early initiation of antiretroviral therapy.
