Description

Sponsored by University of Cincinnati LPS. This program will review the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved once a day pill, Truvada, to help reduce the risk of sexually acquired HIV infection or pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), in combination with safer sex practices.

The drug was previously approved for the treatment of those already infected with HIV. Judith Feinberg, MD, professor in the division of infectious diseases at the University of Cincinnati (UC), UC Health physician and an HIV/AIDS researcher who also chaired the FDA committee that recommended this approval, will discuss preventative HIV care and prescribing of Truvada for those at high risk of contracting HIV. In addition, she will discuss UC Health Physicians Clinic that will provide these services in the surrounding area of Cincinnati.
