Medicaid Bulletin on Improving HIV Care for Beneficiaries

On World AIDS Day 2016, State Medicaid programs received a detailed Information Bulletin from the federal Medicaid office outlining opportunities for Medicaid programs to enhance HIV services across the spectrum. Opportunities to Improve HIV Prevention and Care Delivery to Medicaid and CHIP Beneficiaries, which builds upon earlier bulletins, highlights potential state Medicaid efforts including: 

  • access to HIV testing to get more infected people knowledeable about their HIV status and into care to save lives and resources
  • broadened access to prevention services
  • provision of PrEP
  • engagement in care through approaches like health homes
  • quality improvement/use of performance measures, and
  • addressing substance abuse among persons living with HIV.

This HHS/CMS bulletin was released in collaboration with HRSA and CDC.
