Issues Impacting Access to HIV Care for Young African American Males Living with HIV/AIDS

Event Date: Wednesday, May 29, 2013 - 12:00pm to 1:00pm

Event Type: Webinar/Online Event

Description

One in four new HIV infections occurs in youth between the ages 13 and 24; nearly 60% of these occur in African Americans. More new infections occurred among young African Americans than any other ethnic or racial group. In 2010, 38% of new infections among African American males occurred in this same age group (13-24 years). It is documented that young African American males are disproportionately affected by HIV. Low rates of HIV testing, high incidence of late diagnosis and limited access to care also contribute to the prevalence of HIV/AIDS in the African American community. This training session will focus on the factors responsible for the underutilization of HIV services among young African American males.
