HHS has issued Funding Opportunity Announcements (FOAs) to conduct viral hepatitis research. Prevention and Treatment of Substance Using Populations with or at Risk for HCV is comprised of the following FOAs, which outline priority areas for high impact clinical and basic research for at-risk substance using populations, including those infected with or at risk for HIV. FOAs encourage research focused on prevention and treatment of Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) to reduce new infections and identify and treat existing infections more effectively. These FOAs are informed by priority areas in the 2011 HHS Action Plan, Combating the Silent Epidemic of Viral Hepatitis: Action Plan for the Prevention, Care and Treatment of Viral Hepatitis.

FOAs were issued by HHS's National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA).
